About the team

You'll be the second design hire at Manifest, partnering closely with our Founding Product Designer and reporting directly to our CPTO. Together you'll divide ownership across major product areas so each of you can move fast on the surfaces you lead, while jointly shaping the design system, quality bar, and craft of the team as it grows. You'll work alongside a product team of four PMs (from Headway, Intuit AI, Instacart, and DoorDash) and an engineering organization that ships daily.

Ideal experience

- 5+ years of product design experience shipping complex, workflow-heavy products: SaaS, B2B, or multi-stakeholder platforms.
- Outstanding craft across information architecture, interaction design, visual hierarchy, usability, and accessibility, with a consistently high bar for quality.
- A product thinker who designs systems and workflows, not just screens, and is comfortable owning large, end-to-end scope.
- Experience building or meaningfully evolving a design system from an early or incomplete state.
- Hands-on experience designing AI-powered features or workflows in production products.
- Experience designing across both desktop and mobile.
- Strong collaborator who communicates design rationale clearly and builds trust with product and engineering partners.
- Thrives in a fast-moving, high-candor, in-office environment.

What You'll Own

You'll own end-to-end design for significant product areas, from discovery and problem framing through execution and iteration. You'll translate legal and operational complexity into clear, usable, confidence-building experiences used daily by lawyers, operators, employers, and clients across desktop and mobile. You'll lead design decisions by defining user mental models, information architecture, and key states and edge cases, and make clear tradeoffs between user needs, business goals, and technical constraints. You'll contribute to building and evolving the design system, and design AI-powered features with attention to usability, trust, and human oversight. The system being built for immigration will serve as the foundation for future practice areas.

You thrive in environments where you can move fast, make decisions independently, and see direct impact on real users. You enjoy working closely with lawyers, operators, and clients to uncover pain points, and you're happy to roll up your sleeves across user interviews, usability testing, prototyping, and shipping. You're genuinely excited about AI as a design surface, not just a buzzword, and you'll use prototyping tools and LLMs to sharpen your thinking and iterate faster. You want to own design, not decorate.

Not for you if

This role isn't for designers who prefer mature design systems, heavy process, or traditional corporate design environments. If your strength is visual polish or branding over clarity, usability, and systems thinking, or if you'd rather focus narrowly on a single surface area without engaging with the messy reality of legal and operational workflows, you'll likely find this role frustrating. Designers who have only worked on top of mature design systems without shaping or building one are also unlikely to thrive here. We also need someone who actively uses AI tools. If you're skeptical of or unfamiliar with AI-assisted design work, you won't be set up for success here.
