About Waypoint Bio:
Waypoint Bio is a venture-backed biotech startup building the next generation of cancer therapies. Our platform combines “spatial pooled screening” technology with machine learning to build breakthrough therapies that we believe can meaningfully improve patients’ lives.
We are a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary team that moves quickly to bring promising therapies to patients faster.
The role:
We're looking for a detail-oriented, dependable Lab Operations Intern to help keep our R&D operations running smoothly. This is a hands-on role - you'll be embedded with our science team, ensuring that reagents are stocked, equipment is maintained, and the lab stays organized.
You'll take ownership of the day-to-day logistics that are critical to a functioning wet lab: ordering supplies, receiving and storing shipments, maintaining inventory, and helping with bench work. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants direct exposure to a fast-moving biotech lab and is excited to contribute to meaningful research.
This position reports to Cassandra Kontur, Principal Scientist.
What you’ll do:
-
Own the lab supply chain - audit inventory, place orders, coordinate with vendors and team members, track deliveries, and unpack and store all materials properly including cold storage
-
Keep the lab running smoothly - clean glassware, autoclave materials, aliquot reagents, and maintain an organized, functional workspace
-
Get hands-on with the science - learn molecular cloning and other molecular biology methods, record experiments in a lab notebook, and collaborate with the team to hit key milestones
-
Maintain accurate records - track and document all purchases, receipts, and inventory
Qualifications:
-
Coursework or degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related life science
-
Comfortable with basic lab techniques (pipetting, sterile technique)
-
Organized, reliable, and great at following through independently
-
Strong communicator - comfortable representing the company with vendors
-
Energized by a fast-paced, hands-on environment and quick to pick up new protocols
Bonus (not required):
-
Experience with inventory management or procurement
-
Prior exposure to a research or startup environment
-
Experience with molecular cloning or other molecular biology methods
Who this is great for:
-
A recent graduate (undergraduate or master's program), or current master's program student interested in biotech R&D
-
Someone considering a career in lab operations, research, or the biotech industry
-
A hands-on person who takes pride in keeping things organized and running smoothly
-
Someone motivated by helping advance cancer therapies
Why join us:
-
Work alongside an ambitious, collaborative team at the forefront of cancer therapy
-
Gain direct, hands-on experience in a wet lab at an early-stage biotech startup
-
Take on meaningful responsibility from day one
-
Grow into a larger role over time based on performance and mutual fit
To apply:
Send your resume, availability, and a brief note on your interest in lab operations and short/medium-term career goals to jobs@waypointbio.com. Include "lab operations" in the subject line.
